#EasterWeekend

Easter is tomorrow and while most students went home for the holiday, I decided to stay back at college for the third year in a row – mostly because I didn't think about going home. It was such a fun holiday growing up with Easter egg hunts around my backyard, waking up to the Easter Bunny coming, and the whole family getting together for a feast. While my mom still plays the Easter Bunny role – partly because she refuses to believe we are growing up – it isn’t the same from when I was younger (AKA I miss the Easter egg hunts).

Now that I am older, there are definitely some changes in how we celebrate the holiday. When I am home, it is typically church in the morning followed by lounging around all-day and relaxing with the fam and grandparents, still followed by a gourmet feast. But while I’ve been away at college these last few years, I typically have spent it having a phone call with my parents and grandparents, a nice text with my siblings, and laying in bed all day. There is no gourmet feast, no Easter bunny basket, and no Easter candy (unless I buy it myself but I refuse to do that).

These past few days I have seen a tremendous amount of social media posts about Easter including Twitter’s #EasterBunnyReplacements and #EasterWeekend posts, trending Buzzfeed articles, and Facebook pages shared about Easter. Stores like CVS and Walgreens are posting continuously as well for some last-minute shopping promotions like jelly beans and chocolate Easter eggs.

Social media has exploded this weekend in regards to this holiday and surely it will be very apparent tomorrow. Seeing all of the posts and trends has definitely put me more in the mood and who knows, maybe this year I will make a “gourmet” feast myself.

Was #keyblessed

After a full week back at school it has finally occurred to me that SB2K16 is officially over. Like many, I was in denial that I had to go back to my normal routine of attending class, doing schoolwork, and not having fun every day. I was in Key West for a good five days, and while I was so happy to return to my own bed and shower, I was unprepared to return to school and reality.

While I love how schools have different spring breaks, I hate it. I envy all of my high school friends and how they are on spring break this week. The constant snap chat stories, Facebook album uploads, and Instagram posts are a reminder that my spring break is history and theirs isn’t. Sure, while I was on spring break I’m sure others couldn't wait for the following week and were envy of us at the time, but I can’t help but wish I was back at the beach, in 70-80 degree weather, and not having any worries.

I am sure every social media user has seen at least one spring break post whether it be of the beach, a drink in a hand, or a group picture. It is probably one of the biggest months for social media sites like Facebook and Instagram due to the constant amount of attention and posts from users. Being one that doesn't post Instagram pictures frequently or put up photos on Facebook, I was “instagramming” throughout the week. It was hard for me to keep up with some days on these sites and I usually look at my phone every second of the day.

While SB2K16 was the best one yet (and thankfully I have one more) and am happy to be back in my bed, I still wish I were back in Key West joining in on the social media frenzy and being #keyblessed.

Vinyl -- The New Go-To Series

Yesterday I fell in love. With what? With the best new TV series ever. I fell in love so much that I watched it for eight hours yesterday … and now am patiently waiting for the rest of the season to come out. (And by patiently I mean dreading the wait). It is an HBO original series that is SO good the only show that can’t beat it is Entourage (but that’s a whole new story). With creators Mick Jagger, Martin Scorsese, Rich Cohen, and Terence Winter it is a must watch of the year.

Described as a rock-n-roll-induced euphoria, Vinyl is an American period drama set in the early/mid-1970s about the record executive, Richie Finestra, and his record company American Century. While the music scene in the 70s was still overflowing with sex and drugs, the story really focuses on the ups and downs of the industry, the company, and what rock music means to Richie. It recreates the bands Led Zeppelin, The Doors, and many other classic rock groups of the 70s. Its creators are about as rock-n-roll as you can get, so as you could imagine, it is a time traveling series that truly recreates the 70s music scene and what rock-n-roll meant back then.

Vinyl premiered on February 14, 2016 and currently has over 180,000 likes on Facebook, over 27,000 followers on Twitter, over 37,000 followers on Instagram, and continues to grow attention all over the Internet. Every series has some negative reviews, but who doesn't love the 70s rock era? Which is why it is a MUST SEE and has been talked about so much on social media sites and by journalists. It truly takes you back to that time period with the old set, the styling, the bell-bottom pants, Afros, and bright, patterned shirts you wouldn't dare wear today.

Basically if you love rock-n-roll and the 70s, watch it. Or if you love Martin Scorsese (who doesn't?), watch it, because you might fall in love like I did.
